This is a 24-credit hour certificate program housed with the Center for Diné Studies at Diné College. For the 2017-2018 cohort, students have the option of emphasizing in silversmithing, weaving, basketry and moccasin making. All community members are welcome to apply for this unique certificate. The Navajo Cultural Arts Program hosts four lectures each academic year. Master Navajo artisan and/or knowledgeable individual in the area of Native American cultural arts are invited to share their skills and knowlegdes at Diné College. These events are free and available to the public.
The Navajo Cultural Arts Program provides three workshops each academic year that are correlated with Native American cultural arts, including and extending beyond the emphasis of the Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate. All community members are welcome to apply for these free workshops. Space is limited so be sure to register in advance.
The Navajo Cultural Arts Program provides the opportunity for intergenerational exchange of knowledges and techniques through this unique master artisan/emerging artisan collaborative program. In addition to creating individualized pieces, the mentors and apprentices will collaborate to produce unique pieces together.
Cultural artwork produced in collaborations with the NCAP programs will have the opportunity to partake in the Traveling Exhibit. This includes the Ned Hatalthi Museum and the Navajo Nation Museum among others.
